Mardi Himal Trek- 07 Days Brief Insight

A much more newly organized trip, the Mardi Himal Trek takes on through the heart of Nepal, capturing everything that Nepal has to offer, whether it be quaint rural villages, breathtaking landscapes or the mesmerizing snow-capped mountains. Apart from this, the Mardi Himal Base Camp, being your objective, will also take you past the drastically changing flora and fauna as one crosses through verdant forests and vegetation in the lower reaches to give way to the tougher and rougher landscape of the higher altitudes.

This trek also offers stone throw views of the Annapurna South, Mount Machhapuchhre, and Mount Hiunchuli as one walks through the different parts of the trail. Similar to the Annapurna Base Camp Trek, this trail will take trekkers to the Mardi Himal Base Camp, a unique experience as it has been open to the public only since 2012. This particular trait, therefore, makes it one of the least explored, visited and conquered mountains, despite being quite shorter in height than the Annapurna I.

Please note, that being a short trek, the Mardi Himal Trek is also quite suitable and achievable by first time trekkers and an easy journey for experienced trekkers. This peak lies opposite that of the Annapurna I and Machhapuchhre, giving it a strategic location when it comes to capturing the best views of Nepal.

Now speaking about the journey, the trek begins with a 6-hour drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara, where trekkers will rest for the night. The next morning, one will be taken on another drive from Pokhara to Dhampus, from where the actual trail starts. The trail on this day will take one through quaint villages and rural landscapes to reach Deurali, whence you will rest for the night. From here, the walk from Deurali is a mesmerizing one as trekkers will pass through thick forests of rhododendron, birch, oak, maple, hemlock and daphnia, all the way towards Forest Camp. The Forest Camp also hosts leopards, deer, monkeys and different types of birds that twitter and chatter away, creating a cacophony of noises that completely pushes aside the monotony and humdrum of city noise. Apart from this, one can also capture enthralling views of both the Machapuchare and the Mardi Himal Peaks.

The next days’ trek will take one from the Forest Camp to the High Camp. The trails here are quite steep and get more challenging as the path gets narrower as one begins to climb. While walking, one will find the pristine Modi Khola River Valley to your left and the Mardi Khola and the Seti River Valleys on one’s right. Another rare glimpse that one might get on a clear day from this trail is a never seen before view of Pokhara, the noted tourist capital of Nepal. Upon reaching the High Camp, trekkers will rest for the night at a lodge before continuing on their journey the next day.

The next day will find trekkers reaching the Mardi Himal Base Camp from High Camp and enjoying the glory of conquering the trek, while capturing ethereal views of the Annapurna Range. After this, trekkers will then descend to Low Camp. Please note that the trek is much easier while descending. From Low Camp. One will further descend to Jhinu Danda, where one can relax in the soothing hot springs that it has to offer to its guests, and finally the next morning, the journey will continue onto Siwa/Ghardruk Phedi and then will end with a drive down to Pokhara via Nayapul, from whence you may return to the life of normalcy with a bagful of memories created for a lifetime.
